The holes in the gloves palms are caused by dried glue of the regular tape. The technology employed in our grips is glue-free, the potential of destruction is significantly decreased and close to zero
The shrink-application enables players to choose their own grip shape. Rocketgrip doesn't care if you have a big knob, a little knob, or an old tape job since it will preserve the shape you've produced beneath it
I bought new hockey gloves as my old pair had to many holes. I figured if I spent all that money on new gloves I should protect the investment and stop using tape on my stick and use RocketGrip. It provides the grip of tape without the harm to my gloves. The first skate with it, I had to get used to it a bit, only because it was different than my tape. By the 2nd period, I didn’t even notice it.Installation was a bit intimidating at first, but it was actually easy. I got the RocketGrip that required a heat gun, luckily my friend had one I could borrow. I started with the heat gun far away as not to risk burning, I eventually had to move closer, about 8” and kept it moving, it worked fine. Don’t forget to leave ¼ inch at the top to secure it than slowly move down the grip. Easy Peasy.Quick Pros:• RocketGrip is made of materials that do not damage gloves and is glue or wax free, compared to regular hockey tapes where the dried glue causes holes.• superior grip and improved control• It is waterproof and lightweight, giving your stick longer-lasting durability and superior power and control FOR training and playing!• does not move around or change its position• Feels as Lightweight as Tape, but comes with enhanced structural filaments for a firm grip as a protector on the hockey stickQuick Cons:Wish the grip would shrink a bit more for a more snug fit. Wish it came with more rubber rinks in various sizes.Official Product Name:ROCKETGRIP Hockey Stick Fabric Replacement Grip - Better Than Grip Tapes - Long Lasting Premium Quality Easy to Install Ice Hockey Sports Grip for Adults and KidsRating System Definitions:5 Star = Excellent, better than expected, highly recommend4 Star = Met expectations, would recommend3 Star = below expectations, but ok2 Star = Not at all what was advertised, unsatisfactory-Ant
This grip is not bad at all…decent balance between as little material/weight as possible & a good gripThe grip is good…I halfway want a bit softer grip for comfort but also realize that could start adding weight on some of the higher end sticks that are super light.Overall a good stick grip although the price seems a bit much to me. Hard to argue for this over tape at that price. Also what if I put it on my stick & it breaks the next game?
I purchased the American flag hockey grip to replace the tape on the end of my son’s stick. We generally change tape every few games, as it can get worn, and gummy, depending on how hard he is playing in practicing. As you can see from the zoomed in picture of this hockey grip, this style is the ‘ locked in’ style ‘with holes’ grip. It feels slightly textured to the touch, mom, but still pretty, smooth feeling. It does require some thought, and preparation to decide how you would like to put on your foam, tape, whether spiral or rings, and how that will feel compared to typical tape. This grip was very easy to apply and works great for the purpose, apparently we picked the wrong style of foam, tape grip, or perhaps my young son it’s just very picky still- we use the ring around style, but I think he would have preferred a spiral, or perhaps the fabric like grip, with no foam tape underneath. I think we will try these different styles for practice to see if he likes it. We have many hockey sticks, I think he just needs to get used to this style of grip, but it seems to stay in his hands very well.
Upon first opening the package, I had some doubts about how to install this, but I decided to give it a try. The installation process involved using tape around the top of the stick, then adding the black rings, and finally, sliding on the grip itself. After boiling a pot of water, I poured the hot water onto the grip, which caused it to shrink and conform to the shape of the stick and rings. However, I later realized that I hadn't positioned the grip high enough over the top of the stick, which resulted in it not fully covering the top ring, as you can see in the photo. Nevertheless, it did manage to create a secure seal and fits tightly. If I were to offer a suggestion, I'd recommend positioning the grip about an inch above the end of the stick before heating it. In my case, I had it at about half an inch, which may have caused the issue.
Got this because the tape on my stick had dried out and was falling off. Installation per the instructions was easy - it only took about 3 minutes. The grip feels good - better than tape.My only issue is that the top didn't seal evenly - see the photo. I don't think this is critical, but it sure looks ugly and has left me wondering if I should trim back the excess. I even measured to make sure I left 1cm extra at the top as instructed.I also think this is pretty pricey - putting a $30 grip on a $100 stick that we know will eventually break...If you do go this route, I'd recommend doing it on a new stick only.

from 21 reviewsgreat way to add grip to your stick. cloth material that shrinks wrap on your stick with a heat gun. great part is that it comes with rubber rings or foam tape to create finger holds under the fabric. no more adhesive from hockey tape ruining my gloves palms!!
Installation:The packaging is great, and everything you need is included (except a heat source). Rings and foam ribbon are included for creating ridges if you like those. You can also pull the sleeve over your existing tape if you already have ridges you like.Installation of the cloth version was pretty straightforward. I used the foam ribbon to make a ridge around the grip and put the largest ring at the top of the stick's butt end. I pulled the cloth sleeve over everything and adjusted as necessary. Tip: As they recommend a 1 cm overlay at the top to seal up the end, do the same with any rings or foam ribbon you run toward the bottom as the sleeve will shrink up there too.I have a Harbor Freight heat gun so I used that on Hi at around 760 deg. You could use a hair drier but it will take longer. You could also use an electric stove top with some care. The cloth sleeve did shrink up, but not quite as much as I was expecting. It is not tight against the stick all around (because of the foam ribbon I used), as it did not shrink into the edges where the ring is and the foam ribbon. This isn't a problem. But, pointing it out so you don't overheat and burn the sleeve trying to get these sections shrunk more. I also left a little too much material at the top, so I had to trim it a bit with scissors. I heated the top well, then pressed the butt end down on the counter to get it flat. This worked well to smooth out the end cap.Use:I play with my little finger off the grip and the butt end on the heel of my hand. I leverage to top ring with my ring finger ... gripping with my first, second, and third fingers along with the thumb. The large ring is a good analog for the band of tape typical at the top of sticks, though is more like a half-width of tape (which is what I generally use anyway). The grip on the cloth version is good to excellent. Feel and control were good to excellent. I placed it on a stick I've played with a lot, and there was no degradation of shooting or stickhandling, and maybe some improvement. The grip is very positive and comfortable. Taking faceoffs and getting stick-checked didn't cause any issues with losing top-hand grip on the stick. The Rocket Grip performed well. Conclusion:Is it better than regular tape? The feel is very similar to cloth white hockey tape but with a little more grip, and takes a bit longer to get on the stick. However, it removes the issues of your tape rolling, running out, or being cut too short. But for a little more cost. So, you're trading time and money for less hassle (assuming you have a heat gun). The Rocket Grip lasts longer than tape and creates less wear on the glove palm than white tape, it may be well worth it for you to try!
I play ice hockey and I have my own heat gun and other accessories to work on my sticks, hockey skates, etc. I installed these "Fabric" grips on my main hockey stick. I guess with the rubber kind they sell, you can use boiling water, but not with these fabric grips...you'll need a heat gun. No problem for me because I already had one. If you need one, they're not very expensive and you can get them at Harbor Freight or just about any Home Improvement store. The kit comes with small rubber rings and fabric tape that you can use under the grip before you shrink it to the stick. I used the rubber rings at the top to give it a "knob effect". Then I wrapped the fabric tape around the stick for the finger grips. The grip goes over all these and then you shrink it to the stick with the heat gun (on the low setting). It worked very well. To me, it seems better than the wrapped taped grip I had before. The company also claims that the fabric grip will not put wear on your hockey gloves, whereas wrapped tape will. I haven't used it yet, but I can't see any downside to it. I also chose a color that matched my stick. Several colors are available. I'd give this a thumbs-up.
This grip is super special. I put it on my LAX stick. I love the rings and spiral tape underneath. It holds well and the spin in hand is satisfying. It was super easy to install and you can tape over the top of it. I replace my tape weekly and this grip stays underneath. At the price it is worth having a box of these.
We really liked the American flag design this grip had. My son started playing hockey this year and we wanted to make sure his stick was easy to distinguish from others and to just make it easier to grip. My husband heated this and put it on and said it was a simple process.
I love this.Install was super easy. I used the included rubber rings to add extra shape/grip and simply slid the grip over the top of the stick. Pour some boiling water on it, and voila!I've been using stick tape my whole life and it's eaten through many pairs of gloves. The material of this will undoubtedly outlast tape, and save my gloves in the process. It feels pretty durable and thick in a good way, and will more than likely outlast my stick itself too.The feel is perfect, this version has a slicker feel which I prefer, but the rubber rings give it the exact right amount of feedback so it doesn't go flying.I'm converted, can't believe I haven't this sooner.
OK, so I didn't do my research ahead of time on this, assuming I could just pour nearly boiling water to shrink it... but there's several different RocketGrip models and the ones without holes require a heat gun to shrink them -not a hair dryer. So, after figuring that out I talked to the coach who runs the rink where my kids play and he let me borrow their heat gun. The application, while seeming rather intimidating, was actually quite easy. It took about five minutes, including putting the foam grip wrap on that goes under the grip and a rubber ring that goes at the end of the stick. I have to say, the end result looks professionally done -just a really crisp look. The grip is also better than tape, and I believe them when they say this won't rip up your hockey gloves like tape can. My daughter is excited to have this on her new stick and I think you will be too. If I had to do it again I'd probably get the grip with the holes, so that I could just pour hot water on it, but if you have access to a heat gun then that works well too.
It was easy to install this grip just by pouring hot water on top. Nice Christmas gift, it seems long lasting.
These install superfast and you can trim it to desired length without issue. It includes one ring that is thicker than the rest. I will be using these again, but probably won't use the thicker ring as it is just a hair too big. That's the only downside is you get one shot, but once you figure out what works for you then this should last the life of the stick. It does seem less abrasive on your glove, but with plenty of grip still.
I previously got the fabric grip of this brand and liked it so much that I tried this rubber grip. They both heat-shrink to the hockey stick. The grip comes with a felt tape to wrap around the stick for the finger grips (see photos). It also comes with rubber hoops which I used to build up the butt end of the stick. For this rubber grip, you can use either boiling water or a heat gun (at low setting) to shrink it to the shaft. I used a heat gun. Just follow the instructions and you really can't make a mistake. Nice product.
This product definitely has a smoother, softer feel than stick tape (not cushiony, but not rough like the tape) and I do see how this could be helpful in decreasing the friction that causes the holes in gloves-- only time will tell for that. Application of the product is pretty straight-forward. We just used tape (or the rubber rings included in the pack) to form whatever grip pattern you would like on the stick under the sleeve, slide the sleeve/ cover over, and then use a heat gun to shrink it all into place. We did try to use a hair dryer that has a very high heat setting, but it would not work. You absolutely must have a heat gun to properly apply. It only took a matter of minutes and it was easy to do. The top forms a lip over the end of the stick (in my photo note my son actually doesn't have plug on the end but would work just fine with one). Once done, it is solidly in place and seems to be durable. He said he likes the grip, not slippery despite the smoothness of the material. It is definitely not something that you can take on and off -- once on, if you want to remove it you would have to cut it off and not be able to salvage it. The benefit being you don't have to retape the stick all of the time. I would recommend giving it a try.
I like the feel of it and it's easy to customize because you can choose if you want ridges or to wrap it or none. I went for the rubber and it's softer and thin so it feels like almost fabric/rubber mixed. For the rubber and fabric grips, you need a heat gun to install. If you don't have access to a heat gun, order the hole grip. It was really easy to install though. I thought I left too much space at the top but once I pat it down with an oven mitt, it turned out ok. I do wish it was reusable, like buttendz, so you need to know if you want to cut it before you install this otherwise you'll end up wasting it. Good price though.
My son and I both use Rocket Grip and have no desire to try any other brands. We feel there is no need because we both believe Rocket Grip is the best. It feels great (better than just hockey tape) and is very durable.I always buy white so I cannot speak to whether the colored grips discolor and wear down gloves. We have had no issues with the white.Application is fairly easy (but must be done by an adult or at least high school aged person). Directions call for a heat gun but we used a hair dryer and had no issues.I prefer the "hole grip" as compared to this rubber grip I bought but it is still a great feel. I also feel using the foam tape to create a "candy cane" style grip is better than the grip with one or several rubber rings. *The package comes with these options so you can customize.
